11pm guest at the door,
keypad won’t work?

The guest is exhausted, the kids are crying, and they’re already drafting a one-star review in their head. Relay answers within one ring, walks them through the keypad fix, reads back the master code if needed, and pings you only if it actually needs you. From $19.99/mo — per-property line config included on Team and Business plans.

A live STR host demo line answers as a fictional Hill Country vacation rental brand. Call from your phone and pretend you’re a guest stuck at the door.

A Texas Hill Country vacation cabin at golden hour with warm string lights, a small lockbox keypad on the door, and a phone glowing in the foreground

The STR call math is brutal.

One unanswered guest call at 11pm equals one one-star review for the rest of the listing’s life.

Late check-in lockouts

Flight delayed, keypad batteries dead, code typo'd. The first call from the driveway is your shot.

International guests

Guest dialing from Mexico City, Munich, Tokyo? Relay handles 29 languages and mirrors mid-sentence with no menu.

Per-property FAQ knowledge

Store door codes, wifi passwords, parking, check-in/out times in Relay’s FAQ for each property. Guest gets the answer; you stay asleep.

Urgency triage

“Locked out,” “no AC,” “water leak” pages your phone. “Where’s the wifi password?” gets answered without you.

A line per property (optional)

Each Relay phone number is independently configurable. Run one line per cabin with its own FAQs, or one shared line for the whole brand. Per-line config on Team and above.

Summary in your inbox

Guest name, property, what they asked, what Relay told them, urgency tier. Triage the morning queue while the coffee brews.

Ava (Relay)
Hill Country Stays, this is Ava. How can I help?
Caller
Hi, I’m checking into the Wine Country cabin tonight and the door keypad isn’t lighting up at all. I’m standing out front with my wife and our luggage.
Ava (Relay)
Oh no, that’s the worst end to a drive. That keypad runs on batteries that occasionally die. There’s a hidden manual key in a small lockbox attached to the gas meter on the side of the house, the meter’s right around the corner from the front door, on the south wall. Lockbox code is 4-7-1-1. Can you find it?
Caller
Hold on. Okay, I’ve got it. Got the key out.
Ava (Relay)
Perfect. It opens the front door directly. Once you’re in, there’s a fresh set of 9-volt batteries on the kitchen counter for the keypad, swap them in the morning when you’ve had some rest. Can I get your name so I let Sarah, the host, know everything’s fine?
Caller
Tom Bauer. Thank you, that was a huge relief.
Ava (Relay)
Welcome to the Hill Country, Tom. There’s a binder on the kitchen island with wifi, parking, and the full guest guide. Have a great stay.
Lockout resolved without paging host. Summary in inbox: guest in, batteries to replace in the morning.

Common questions

Will Relay handle a late check-in lockout call?

Yes. Relay answers 24/7, recognizes the urgency (“I’m standing outside, the keypad isn’t working”), captures the property address and guest name, walks the guest through the most common keypad fixes (battery check, manual override), and if those fail it sends you a flagged-urgent email summary in seconds. To also text or page your phone the moment the call ends, connect Relay’s free Urgent Call Zapier trigger to Twilio SMS, PagerDuty, or Slack — Relay itself delivers urgent flags via email, so SMS / push / paging requires a Zap or webhook. Most hosts also store the property’s keypad master code in a per-line FAQ so Relay can read it back to the guest directly without waking you up at all.

Can different properties have different greetings and instructions?

Yes. Each Relay phone number is independently configurable: greeting, voice, tone, language, FAQ knowledge base (door codes, wifi passwords, parking instructions), notification recipients. Useful for hosts running multiple properties under one brand. Per-line config is included on the Team plan and above.

What about Spanish-speaking guests, or international guests?

Relay handles 29 languages and mirrors the caller mid-sentence automatically. Useful for Hill Country hosts whose guests increasingly arrive from Mexico, Europe, and Asia.

Will it protect my reviews?

Indirectly, yes. The single biggest review-killer for STR hosts is unanswered emergency calls during a stay. Relay answers within one ring, captures the situation, helps with common issues directly (door codes, wifi, parking, check-in/out timing), and pings you for the rest. Guests rate the experience based on responsiveness; Relay makes you look responsive even when you’re asleep.

How much does it cost for a typical STR host?

Solo hosts with 1-3 properties usually fit on the $19.99 Solo plan. 5-15 properties typically lands on the $64.99 Team plan. 20+ properties or a co-host operation wants the $199.99 Business plan. Overage is opt-in at $0.15/min and off by default.

Do I need to port my number?

No, and you don’t need to. Relay provisions a new phone number for you (any area code) and you use it in your Airbnb / Vrbo listing as the contact number, or forward an existing line to it. Most hosts start that way and stay that way. (Number porting itself is on the roadmap.)
